Corporate demand for professional pet relocation services has surged nearly 300% over the last five years, forcing companies to overhaul their mobility policies. With nearly half of all firms now providing some form of pet shipment support, what was once a fringe perk is becoming a critical tool for talent retention.

Data from Starwood Pet Travel indicates that corporate inquiries for pet relocation jumped from 1,163 in 2019 to 4,545 by 2024. This trend shows no signs of cooling, as 2026 is currently on track to surpass all previous records. The shift stems from a growing recognition that for many modern professionals, pets are integral family members who heavily influence the decision to accept an international assignment.

Employers are responding by formalizing these benefits within their mobility programs. According to AIRINC’s annual Long Term Assignment Survey, the percentage of companies offering pet shipment assistance rose from 37% in 2022 to 49% in 2025. This transition marks a move away from ad hoc, case-by-case accommodations toward structured corporate policies. However, most firms still maintain guardrails: 43% of companies limit the number of pets covered, while 29% impose specific cash caps.

Industries ranging from higher education and technology to oil and energy are leading this adoption. While the logistical requirements vary—from simple domestic flights to complex international moves involving quarantine and government health permits—the goal remains consistent. By alleviating the logistical burden of moving pets, companies report higher satisfaction rates among mobile employees, effectively turning a logistical necessity into a strategic advantage in the global competition for talent.
