Ottawa Approves Springpole Gold Project Environmental Assessment
The federal government has cleared the path for First Mining Gold Corp.’s Springpole project, granting environmental assessment approval for one of Canada’s largest undeveloped gold resources. Located 110 kilometres northeast of Red Lake, Ontario, the project now moves toward construction readiness following an extensive regulatory review process that began in 2018.

CEO Dan Wilton described the move as a validation of the project's potential to generate billions in government revenue and create hundreds of local jobs. The company is now shifting its focus toward post-assessment engineering designs and site optimizations. Compliance remains central to the next phase, as the federal decision includes a series of conditions regarding aquatic protection, terrestrial monitoring, and ongoing Indigenous consultation that First Mining must maintain throughout the project’s lifecycle.
