Google Brings Gemini Spark Agent to macOS

Apple users can now access Gemini Spark directly on their desktops, as Google integrates its agentic AI into the existing Gemini app. Currently limited to U.S.-based AI Ultra subscribers, the beta launch positions the tool to compete directly with platforms like Claude Desktop and Microsoft Copilot by managing local files.

The expansion brings significant utility to the Mac ecosystem, allowing the assistant to sort local documents or extract data from invoices to populate Google Workspace spreadsheets. Google confirmed that future updates will enable cross-device workflows, letting users trigger multi-step tasks from their phones that execute directly on their desktop computers.

Responding to early user feedback, the company has bolstered the assistant’s connectivity. Spark now pulls information from Google Tasks and Keep, moving away from the previous reliance on Google Docs for simple lists. Beyond Google’s own suite, the agent gains third-party integrations with services like Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, and Zillow Rentals. These connections allow the AI to handle logistical chores such as ordering groceries, booking apartment tours, or reserving tables.

The update also introduces real-time tracking for dynamic information like stock market movements, sports scores, and breaking news. Power users can further customize these capabilities through the newly supported Model Context Protocol, which facilitates direct connections to niche applications for a more tailored automated experience.
