Natural Gas Inventories Poised for Surplus Growth

U.S. natural gas stockpiles likely swelled by 81 billion cubic feet last week, a figure that would push the current surplus above the five-year average to its widest margin since mid-January. Analysts anticipate this inventory surge will further decouple domestic supply levels from typical seasonal patterns.

The average estimate, drawn from a survey of 12 market participants, suggests total storage will reach 2,916 billion cubic feet. Individual projections remain wide, spanning from a conservative 66 Bcf injection to an aggressive 98 Bcf. This anticipated build significantly outpaces the 64 Bcf average recorded for the same week between 2021 and 2025.

Should the data align with these expectations, the surplus over the five-year average will climb to 169 Bcf, up from 152 Bcf the previous week. Simultaneously, the deficit against year-earlier levels would shrink to 29 Bcf. The U.S. Energy Information Administration is set to confirm these figures on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. EDT.
