The partnership with Beller, a former general partner at NFX and a key figure in the development of Meta’s Libra project, signals a distinct departure from the mandate at Sound Ventures. While his former firm cemented its reputation through high-conviction bets on AI leaders like OpenAI and Anthropic, the new venture will target the foundational layers of the artificial intelligence ecosystem. Kutcher and Beller are turning their attention to the hard science and engineering breakthroughs that provide the power and architecture for the next generation of AI.

Ashton Kutcher Departs Sound Ventures for AI Infrastructure Fund
After eleven years as a co-founder of Sound Ventures, Ashton Kutcher is exiting the firm to launch a new venture capital outfit alongside former Meta executive Morgan Beller. The move marks a strategic shift for the actor-investor, who intends to pivot from established unicorns toward early-stage deep tech and energy infrastructure.
Stanford finance professor Ilya Strebulaev noted the significance of the transition, citing Kutcher’s consistent performance as a unicorn investor. The split stems from a divergence in strategy regarding investment maturity; Sound Ventures prefers backing more established players, whereas Kutcher is eager to return to the risks of early-stage funding. Despite the firm-level separation, the relationship remains collaborative. Kutcher will maintain an advisory role at Sound Ventures, while Guy Oseary and Effie Epstein are set to provide counsel to his new, as-yet-unnamed firm.
