TV Time to Shut Down as Whip Media Pivots to AI

With over 26 million lifetime installs, the popular television-tracking app TV Time is closing its doors. The platform will cease operations on July 15, 2026, as its parent company, Whip Media, abandons consumer-facing services to concentrate resources on its AI-powered automation and workflow management tools.

The decision to shutter the app comes despite a consistent user base, with nearly 29,000 new downloads recorded in the last month alone. Management cited the financial burden of maintaining a free service and insufficient demand for a paid subscription model as the primary factors for the closure. This move mirrors a broader industry trend where companies sacrifice established consumer communities to prioritize the development of artificial intelligence products.

Whip Media underwent a significant strategic shift following its acquisition by Blue Torch Capital in early 2025. Previously, TV Time functioned as a data engine for the company's media intelligence business, where the value lay in aggregate user sentiment and ratings rather than direct app revenue. Under new ownership, the focus has moved to Helix, an AI-driven tool designed for streaming analytics and supply chain orchestration. While the company has opted to delete all personal user data following the shutdown, it remains unclear why the platform was not offered for sale to another entity. Users have until the July 15 deadline to export their personal watch histories using the company's provided GDPR-compliant tool.
