Al-Haq Report Details Systemic Destruction of Gaza Healthcare

A new report from the human rights group Al-Haq characterizes the collapse of Gaza’s medical infrastructure as a calculated campaign of genocide. Released during a fragile cease-fire, the document alleges that Israeli forces systematically targeted hospitals and medical personnel to render the territory uninhabitable for Palestinians.

The 116-page investigation, titled The Systematic Destruction of Gaza's Healthcare System: A Pattern of Genocide, builds on previous findings from United Nations entities and medical testimony. It argues that the destruction of facilities—ranging from the historic al-Shifa Hospital to the Indonesian and Nasser hospitals—is not collateral damage but a policy linked to statements by Israeli officials. According to the report, the military tactics employed include the abduction and torture of health workers alongside the deliberate denial of essential medical supplies.

This legal analysis arrives as the death toll in the enclave climbs to 47,283, with thousands more injured and missing under the rubble. Al-Haq urges the international community to move beyond rhetoric by imposing an arms embargo and supporting active investigations at the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court. Beyond Gaza, the report raises alarm over escalating violence in the West Bank, calling for a U.N. commission to probe similar patterns of destruction and harm within East Jerusalem and the occupied territories. The findings serve as a formal plea for global bodies to recognize these actions as war crimes and violations of international humanitarian law.
