Olympic Athlete Indicted Over Lincoln Memorial Pool Incident

US Attorney Jeanine Pirro has secured a felony indictment against former Olympic athlete David Hearn, accusing the 67-year-old of vandalizing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The charges follow allegations that Hearn forcefully removed a section of the pool’s liner, a claim the athlete and his legal team vehemently reject.

Hearn faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of the charges, which stem from an incident last month at the site of a high-profile renovation project ordered by President Donald Trump. While Pirro framed the arrest as a necessary defense of a national monument, Hearn told The Washington Post that he merely touched a piece of lining that had already detached from the pool floor. His attorney, Norm Eisen, characterized the prosecution as a calculated distraction. Eisen argued that the administration is using Hearn as a scapegoat to deflect public scrutiny from the ongoing degradation of the pool, which has been marred by persistent algae blooms, damaged infrastructure, and reports of dead wildlife.

This indictment marks the latest in a series of controversial legal maneuvers under Pirro’s tenure. Critics have pointed to a pattern of aggressive, unsuccessful litigation, including a collapsed case against Democratic officials earlier this year and the failed prosecution of a former Justice Department employee last November. Legal observers suggest the current case against Hearn relies on a narrative that appears increasingly disconnected from the physical reality of the pool’s deteriorating condition.
