Surfshark Targets ESG Goals Through Renewable Energy and Digital Rights

Vilnius-based cybersecurity firm Surfshark has published its 2025 Impact Report, detailing a shift toward renewable energy and expanded support for global digital rights. The document highlights the company’s transition to fully green-powered offices in Lithuania and the provision of secure tools to over 2,500 activists and journalists worldwide.

The company’s environmental strategy centers on its Lithuanian hubs in Vilnius and Kaunas, which now operate entirely on renewable energy. Beyond carbon reduction, Surfshark has implemented a circular-economy model that prioritizes the donation or recycling of electronic waste and office furniture. Employees also contributed to reforestation efforts, planting 9,000 trees across three hectares of local woodland.

Surfshark bolstered its advocacy for internet freedom by deepening partnerships with organizations such as Access Now and the Global Encryption Coalition. Its Emergency VPN program provided secure, unrestricted internet access to human rights defenders and media professionals operating in high-censorship zones. This humanitarian focus extended to internal initiatives, including a doubled employee donation program for relief efforts in Ukraine.

Operational integrity remains a pillar of the 2025 report, with the firm maintaining a 100% RAM-only server infrastructure that purges data upon every reboot. Independent audits from firms including Deloitte and Cure53 confirm the company’s adherence to its no-logs policy and information security standards. The firm currently operates under a framework aligned with the Global Reporting Initiative and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, with plans to revisit its materiality assessments in 2026.
