Collectors Universe Faces Class Action Over Alleged Wage Violations

A class action lawsuit filed in Orange County Superior Court accuses Collectors Universe, Inc. of failing to provide mandatory meal breaks and rest periods. The complaint, brought by attorneys at Blumenthal Nordrehaug Bhowmik De Blouw LLP, alleges the company systematically underpaid staff by forcing them to work off the clock.

The legal action, registered as Case No. 30-2026-01572521-CU-OE-CXC, centers on claims that the defendant neglected California Labor Code requirements regarding employee compensation and documentation. According to the filing, the company required staff to perform duties while under their control without appropriate payment, violating state statutes governing minimum wage and overtime premiums under Cal. Lab. Code §§ 1194, 1197, and 1197.1.

Beyond unpaid labor, the suit challenges the accuracy of the company’s payroll practices. The plaintiff, who was paid on an hourly basis, contends that the wage statements provided by Collectors Universe failed to include required itemized information, a direct violation of Cal. Lab. Code § 226(a). Attorneys representing the class are now seeking to address these alleged discrepancies, citing the employer's failure to maintain transparent and legal records for their workforce.
