Canada Nickel Partners with RWE to Export Low-Carbon Steel to Europe

Canada Nickel Company has entered a strategic partnership with RWE Supply & Trading to commercialize low-carbon stainless and alloy steel products. By leveraging RWE’s extensive carbon-trading expertise and market access in Europe and the U.S., the company aims to capitalize on rising demand for sustainable materials under the EU's carbon border regulations.

The agreement focuses on semi-finished steel and alloy products originating from Canada Nickel’s Net Zero Metals subsidiary, which utilizes ore from the Crawford Nickel Project in Ontario. As the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) continues to tighten, the partnership is designed to position these low-carbon outputs as a competitive, compliant alternative to traditional, higher-emission steel supplies.

Mark Selby, CEO of Canada Nickel, noted that the collaboration addresses the growing need for stable, low-carbon energy and materials in the face of European energy volatility. Beyond market access, RWE will provide specialized support regarding CBAM compliance and help facilitate connections with European export credit agencies. Both firms are currently working toward a definitive agreement, which they aim to finalize before the end of 2026.
