The expansion marks a significant shift for the company’s regional operations, as Toyota plans to transition Tacoma production from its Baja California plant to the Texas facility over the next four years. The project will add 2.5 million square feet to the existing site, bringing Toyota’s total investment in the San Antonio campus to $8.3 billion since its inception in 2003.

Toyota to Double San Antonio Plant Size in $3.6 Billion Expansion
Toyota Motor North America will invest $3.6 billion to construct a second vehicle assembly line at its San Antonio manufacturing campus, a move set to add 2,000 jobs and double the facility's physical footprint by 2030 to accommodate the production of the Tacoma truck alongside the Tundra and Sequoia.

Upon completion, the San Antonio workforce is expected to reach approximately 6,000 employees. The site currently serves as the exclusive production hub for the Tundra and Sequoia, with a new rear axle facility scheduled to begin operations this fall. According to Toyota leadership, the expansion leverages the plant's original 2,000-acre site, which was selected two decades ago for its long-term scalability. Local and state officials, including Governor Greg Abbott, credited the state's business environment and the Texas Enterprise Fund for securing the project, which is intended to bolster the region’s role in advanced automotive manufacturing.
