Tidal Energy Campaign Wins Cannes Lions Grand Prix

The Faroe Islands Space Program, a marketing campaign centered on Minesto’s underwater kite technology, has secured the Grand Prix at the 2026 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The project, which frames tidal power as a form of accessible lunar energy, outperformed thousands of entries to be named the world’s top B2B campaign.

Developed by bearing manufacturer SKF and creative agency Nord DDB, the campaign highlights the role of Minesto’s Dragon tidal kites in the global energy transition. By positioning the Faroe Islands as a hub for sustainable innovation, the initiative has reached over 800 million impressions since its 2025 launch. Its success has drawn significant media coverage from outlets including the BBC, CNBC, and The Economist, effectively elevating the profile of ocean energy among global industry leaders.

Minesto CEO Dr. Martin Edlund described the recognition as a pivotal moment for the company's commercial expansion, likening the award to an industry-defining accolade for their technology. The execution required a unique integration of live offshore operations and high-end narrative production, a challenge that Chief Communications Officer Cecilia Sernhage noted was instrumental in securing the jury’s favor. Beyond the Grand Prix, the project also earned a Gold Lion in Creative Strategy, cementing its status as a benchmark for how industrial players can communicate complex technical solutions to a mass audience.
