Minesto Tidal Energy Campaign Wins Cannes Lions Grand Prix

The Faroe Islands Space Program, a campaign spotlighting Minesto’s subsea tidal kites, secured the Grand Prix at the 2026 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. By framing tidal energy as accessible lunar power, the initiative outperformed thousands of global entries to be named the world’s most outstanding B2B creative work.

Minesto Tidal Energy Campaign Wins Cannes Lions Grand Prix

The campaign, which has reached over 800 million impressions since its 2025 launch, was a collaborative effort between bearing manufacturer SKF, agency Nord DDB, developer Minesto, and Faroese utility company Sev. It highlights the potential of tidal energy by leveraging the Moon’s gravitational pull, positioning the Faroe Islands as a central hub for sustainable innovation. The project successfully bridged the gap between complex industrial engineering and mass-market storytelling, earning features in outlets including the BBC, CNBC, and The Economist.

For Minesto, the recognition serves as a strategic milestone in the commercialization of its Dragon technology. CEO Dr. Martin Edlund compared the win to an Oscar for Best Actor, noting that the campaign helps position the company’s renewable plants before global energy leaders. The effort required deep technical integration, with Minesto staff embedding film production directly into active offshore operations to capture the reality of their tidal kites in motion.
