South Florida Donor Network Breaks Regional Organ Donation Records

In its third month of operation, the South Florida Donor Network facilitated 79 organ transplants from 24 donors during June 2026. This performance marks the highest monthly total in the history of the region’s federally designated service area, surpassing previous benchmarks for both transplant volume and donor participation.

South Florida Donor Network Breaks Regional Organ Donation Records

The organization took over regional organ procurement services only three months ago. The recent figures eclipsed the previous local records of 77 transplants and 23 donors in a single month. Joe Ferreira, president and CEO, credited the milestone to the collaboration between hospital partners, donor families, and the network’s clinical teams.

Tyre Gray, the network’s chief administrative and legal officer and a kidney transplant recipient, emphasized that the results stem from a unified community effort to honor donor wishes. With more than 6,300 people currently awaiting transplants in Florida and over 109,000 nationwide, officials hope the momentum will encourage more residents to register as donors. A single donor has the potential to save up to eight lives through organ donation and improve dozens more via tissue recovery.
