Tehran Rejects Imminent Peace Deal Amid Claims of US Inconsistency

Iranian officials have dismissed President Donald Trump’s assertions that a peace agreement is imminent, citing erratic American diplomacy and what they describe as deliberate Israeli sabotage as primary obstacles to ending the three-month conflict.

Tehran Rejects Imminent Peace Deal Amid Claims of US Inconsistency

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei acknowledged during a Monday press briefing that negotiators have reached conclusions on several key issues. However, he cautioned that claiming a final agreement is near remains premature. While a 14-point memorandum of understanding reportedly outlines a framework for a ceasefire, the unfreezing of assets, and the easing of naval blockades, Tehran maintains that the primary focus must remain on halting hostilities across all fronts, including Lebanon.

Baghaei explicitly criticized the shifting nature of US policy, noting that frequent contradictions from Washington complicate the negotiation process. The impasse is further strained by Iran’s insistence that any deal must address Israeli military actions in Lebanon. Meanwhile, in the United States and Israel, the potential for a settlement has drawn sharp criticism. Some American lawmakers and Israeli officials argue that any agreement failing to address nuclear development or regional influence would represent a strategic failure, even as Iranian leaders signal they remain prepared to continue the conflict if current diplomatic efforts collapse.
