Fresno Yosemite Airport Overhauls Parking with Contactless Tech

Starting July 14, Fresno Yosemite International Airport will eliminate parking tickets and kiosks, becoming the largest airport in California to implement Metropolis’ drive-in, drive-out system. The update allows travelers to register their license plates and payment methods online, automating the entire arrival and departure process for a more seamless transit experience.

The transition replaces traditional manual payment lanes with a sensor-based platform that recognizes vehicles upon entry and exit. Travelers can register via the Metropolis website or by scanning QR codes located at parking entrances. While the system is designed to accelerate exit times and reduce congestion, airport officials confirmed that cash payments will remain available through a designated lane staffed by on-site personnel.

This shift arrives as the airport navigates a period of historic expansion. In 2025, the facility reached a record-breaking 2.7 million passengers and finalized the FATforward modernization project, which included the construction of a new multi-level parking garage. According to City Manager Georgeanne White, the partnership serves as an extension of that infrastructure investment, providing airport management with granular data on parking demand while streamlining the curb-side experience for regional travelers.

Metropolis, which manages operations at approximately 75 airports nationwide, is integrating this technology to further its footprint in the Central Valley. For the airport, the move aligns with its recent recognition as one of the top small airports in the United States, positioning the transit hub to handle growing passenger volumes with increased operational efficiency.
