The boards of both organizations approved the transition to secure the long-term viability of the Datapages archive, which has served the geological community for nearly three decades. By combining Datapages’ extensive collection of publications from over 60 global geological societies with GeoScienceWorld’s established publishing ecosystem, the partners intend to enhance the discoverability of critical earth science research.

AAPG Merges Datapages into GeoScienceWorld to Modernize Archive
The American Association of Petroleum Geologists and GeoScienceWorld have finalized a merger of Datapages, a move aimed at integrating a vast archive of applied geoscience content into a modernized digital platform. The consolidation seeks to leverage GSW’s technical infrastructure to expand reach across academic, government, and corporate sectors.

AAPG Executive Director Tom Wilker noted that the merger provides the necessary technological upgrade for Datapages to remain a vital resource for its members and publishing partners. Phoebe McMellon, CEO of GeoScienceWorld, emphasized that the integration aligns with the nonprofit’s mission to support independent society publishers. While the ownership of individual content remains with the original authors and publishers, the transition aims to streamline access for the 900 institutions currently served by GSW. Both organizations have committed to a collaborative process to ensure continuity for existing users and partners throughout the integration.
