Desert Financial Credit Union Debuts Fractional Share Trading

By allowing members to purchase fractional shares directly through its mobile app, Phoenix-based Desert Financial Credit Union is removing the high-cost barriers typically associated with stock market entry. The expanded Digital Investing platform integrates educational resources and simulated trading tools to guide novice investors through their first portfolio moves.

Desert Financial Credit Union Debuts Fractional Share Trading

The platform, built in partnership with TAPP Engine, enables users to buy portions of stocks and exchange-traded funds, eliminating the requirement to purchase full shares. This self-directed brokerage model aims to demystify wealth management for the credit union’s 500,000 members, many of whom may have previously felt that significant capital was a prerequisite for investing.

Beyond basic trading, the interface includes AI-powered robo-advisory services that tailor asset allocation based on individual risk tolerance and long-term financial goals. For those wary of immediate market exposure, the system provides simulated trading environments to practice strategies without risking actual capital. Josh Fadel, managing director of Desert Financial Wealth Management, noted that these tools are intended to support everyone from absolute beginners to seasoned individuals looking to refine their portfolios. While the platform offers increased accessibility, the organization emphasizes that all investments carry inherent risks, including the potential loss of principal, and remain distinct from traditional NCUA-insured credit union products.
