Kintetsu Department Store Swings to Profit in First Quarter

Kintetsu Department Store Co. Ltd. reported a net profit of 1.33 billion yen for the first quarter ending May 31, a sharp reversal from the 604 million yen loss recorded during the same period last year. The results signal a robust recovery for the Japanese retailer despite a slight dip in revenue.

The company’s revenue reached 29.41 billion yen, down marginally from the 29.78 billion yen posted in the previous year. Despite the lower top-line figure, operational efficiency significantly improved. Operating profit surged to 1.93 billion yen, nearly doubling the 1.08 billion yen achieved in the prior-year quarter. Pretax profit followed a similar trajectory, rising to 1.91 billion yen compared to 985 million yen a year earlier. Earnings per share climbed to 32.85 yen, contrasting with the previous loss of 15.47 yen per share. These figures are based on Japanese accounting standards.
