NABJ Seeks Recruitment Partner for Executive Director Search

The National Association of Black Journalists is soliciting proposals from executive search firms to manage the high-stakes recruitment of its next Executive Director. With a July 21 deadline for submissions, the organization aims to secure a strategic leader capable of navigating a pivotal era for media and press freedom.

NABJ Seeks Recruitment Partner for Executive Director Search

The search committee, comprised of veteran media executives including Raelyn Johnson, LaSharah Bunting, and Monica Richardson, intends to finalize their selection of a search partner by August 3. This firm will spearhead a national campaign to identify a candidate who can balance operational oversight with the complex demands of advocacy, fundraising, and membership engagement. The roadmap targets a final start date of December 1, 2026, for the new appointee.

While the search process remains largely confidential to protect candidate privacy, the organization maintains continuity under the direction of Finance Director Nathaniel "Nate" Chambers, who currently serves as Interim Executive Director. The committee has outlined a rigorous schedule, with finalist interviews slated for mid-October. Interested firms must submit their materials to the organization by 11:59 pm PT on July 21 to be considered for the partnership.
