A 1,500-Pound Longhorn Is Dallas’s Unlikely Tournament Oracle

Beneath the Dallas skyline, a fifteen-hundred-pound longhorn named Buddy has become the city’s answer to soccer prophecy. With a track record of knockout-round predictions defined by two feed buckets and a flag, the bovine oracle prepares to make his final tournament pick live this Thursday at Fuel City.

The ritual is straightforward: two buckets, each draped in a competing nation's colors, serve as the stage for what founder Rodrigo Ricaud calls a Drizz Drop. Buddy’s selections are broadcast to thousands via Instagram and TikTok, turning the Fuel City ranch into a high-stakes arena. While the 2010 World Cup had Germany’s Paul the Octopus, Dallas has opted for a distinctly Texan icon to navigate the tournament’s final bracket.

On July 16, the spectacle moves to a barn party at Fuel City Riverfront. Amidst street tacos and a DJ, the longhorn will finalize his tournament legacy at 7:30 PM. Admission for the event is limited to journalists, creators, and fans who secure an approved RSVP. For Ricaud, an entrepreneur who bridges the gap between Dallas and Mexico City, the project represents a local identity project. He maintains that Buddy is not a sportsbook, but a cultural fixture representing a city currently hosting the world’s attention. The event serves as a promotional showcase for Drizz, a Dallas-born beverage enhancer brand that has seen rapid expansion into major retail chains.
