Chipotle Launches First Mexico Location in Nuevo León

Chipotle Mexican Grill marks a strategic shift in its international expansion by opening its inaugural restaurant in Mexico this Thursday. Located in San Pedro Garza García, within the Monterrey metropolitan area, the site serves as a testing ground for the brand’s partnership with Latin American operator Alsea.

Chipotle Launches First Mexico Location in Nuevo León

The debut in Nuevo León serves as the first major step under a development agreement finalized in April 2025. Both companies view the region’s economic strength and status as a business hub as the ideal entry point. Following this opening, the partnership intends to establish additional units in Nuevo León throughout the year, with a planned expansion into Mexico City by 2027.

Chipotle CEO Scott Boatwright emphasized that the company is approaching the market with a focus on local culinary heritage, utilizing the operational expertise of Alsea to adapt to Mexican consumer preferences. The new location features the brand’s standardized menu, prioritizing fresh ingredients prepared without artificial additives, a model that currently supports over 4,100 restaurants globally. This move reflects a broader international push for the brand, which has already established a presence in the Middle East, Asia, and several European markets.
