The partnership targets the growing demand for rapid scenario modeling as renewable sources and storage assets become central to commercial operations. By combining Gridcog’s simulation tools with ABB’s advisory expertise, the companies intend to accelerate the transition from concept to implementation for microgrids and energy-as-a-service models. The software allows developers to quantify both carbon impact and cost efficiency during the earliest project stages, providing a clearer roadmap for net-zero goals.

ABB invests in Gridcog to digitize complex energy modeling
ABB has secured a strategic minority stake in UK-based software startup Gridcog, aiming to streamline the design and validation of decentralized energy projects. The move integrates Gridcog’s specialized modeling platform with ABB’s existing engineering services to help industrial clients navigate the financial and environmental complexities of modern power grids.

Stuart Thompson, President of ABB’s Electrification Service, noted that the collaboration helps clients manage an increasingly fragmented energy landscape while unlocking value from distributed resources. Fabian Le Gay Brereton, CEO of Gridcog, emphasized that the investment validates the necessity of advanced modeling in modern energy management. ABB led the funding round, which also included participation from AXPO, DNV, and Verbund Ventures. This latest deal brings the total investment by ABB Electrification Ventures to more than $110 million across 16 startups since 2021, reinforcing the company's broader push into integrated, service-led digital solutions.
