SkinMedica Expands Regenerative Skincare Research and Retail Footprint

Irvine-based Allergan Aesthetics is doubling down on its regenerative skincare division, launching a new advisory board of clinical experts and expanding its R&D laboratory in California. The move marks a strategic shift to integrate artificial intelligence into skin biology research while deploying immersive retail experiences at select medical practices.

SkinMedica Expands Regenerative Skincare Research and Retail Footprint

The newly formed Regenerative Science Advisory Board brings together a national collective of physicians and skin health experts to bridge the gap between breakthrough laboratory research and everyday patient care. According to Glen Curran, senior vice president at Allergan Aesthetics, the board aims to refine clinical practices and inform future developments in skin longevity through direct collaboration with the clinicians who apply these products daily.

Complementing this expertise, the company has significantly enlarged its research facility in Irvine, Calif. The updated lab now features advanced imaging technologies and machine learning capabilities to identify new biological targets and accelerate ingredient discovery. By housing formulation scientists and biological researchers under one roof, the facility intends to streamline the development of next-generation regenerative products.

Beyond the laboratory, the brand is piloting flagship retail spaces designed to extend the patient journey beyond the treatment room. These immersive environments allow patients to engage with the science behind their personalized regimens directly within medical practices. The initial rollout includes locations such as Lycia Thornburg, M.D. Dermatology in Rapid City, S.D., and The Skin Clinic in Scottsdale, Ariz., with further expansions expected across the U.S. throughout 2026.
