Prolynx Appoints Amer Mirza as Chief Scientific Officer

Prolynx has tapped Amer Mirza, PhD, to lead its research and development efforts as the biotechnology firm pushes to expand its portfolio of ultra-long-acting obesity treatments. The appointment, facilitated by executive search firm Slone Partners, marks a strategic pivot toward advancing the company's metabolic disease candidates into clinical milestones.

Dr. Mirza arrives with nearly 25 years of industry experience, previously serving as Vice President of Disease Biology and Translational Sciences at Septerna. His background includes senior leadership tenures at Ascendis Pharma, Gilead Sciences, and XOMA, where he focused on preclinical pharmacology and navigating IND-enabling studies. At Prolynx, he will oversee the development of proprietary modular platforms designed to reduce treatment burdens through once-monthly and once-quarterly dosing schedules.

Leslie Loveless, CEO of Slone Partners, emphasized that Mirza’s expertise in translating complex science into clinical progress aligns with the company’s current growth phase. For his part, Mirza highlighted the potential of the firm's technology to improve patient tolerability and provide more durable care compared to current metabolic therapies. Mirza holds a PhD in Hematology/Oncology from the University of Toronto and maintains active memberships with the Endocrine Society and the American Association for Cancer Research.
