Solar Team Eindhoven Unveils World’s First Solar-Powered Ambulance

In regions where fuel shortages and crumbling infrastructure block access to emergency care, a new solution is emerging from the Netherlands. Solar Team Eindhoven has developed Stella Juva, an ambulance that functions entirely on solar energy, capable of powering life-saving medical equipment in the world’s most isolated environments.

The vehicle is set for its official presentation on July 21, 2026, marking a transition from experimental solar vehicles to practical humanitarian utility. The team draws upon a proven track record, having secured four consecutive victories in the Cruiser Class of the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge and successfully tested the Stella Terra off-road solar prototype across 1,000 kilometers of Moroccan terrain.

Technical & Event Manager Steven Swinkels notes that the project relies on a network of European specialists to ensure the vehicle is ready for real-world deployment. Among these partners is the Dutch firm Tuningsupply, which provides critical braking and vehicle-control components. Following the launch, the team will initiate field tests in August 2026 alongside humanitarian organizations to evaluate the vehicle’s ability to sustain patient care and equipment charging in areas inaccessible to conventional emergency fleets.
