JA Solar Ships First Modules for Masdar’s 24/7 Abu Dhabi Project

In the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi, the first shipment of PV modules from JA Solar has arrived, marking a critical step in the construction of the world’s largest solar-plus-storage facility. The project aims to deliver a consistent gigawatt of baseload power to support the region's expanding AI infrastructure.

Selected as a preferred supplier for a 3GW order in 2025, JA Solar is now deploying its flagship DeepBlue modules to facilitate the project's ambitious energy goals. The facility combines a 5.2 gigawatt solar photovoltaic array with a massive 19 gigawatt-hour battery storage system. Designed for continuous, high-load operation, the infrastructure must endure extreme desert climates while meeting the rigorous reliability standards required by modern data centers.

Operational capacity is slated for 2027, with the generated electricity specifically earmarked to meet the surging power demands of AI computing. Beyond hardware supply, JA Solar is positioning its technology as a core component of the digital economy. During Intersolar Europe 2026, the company collaborated with Deloitte to publish a framework for measuring the environmental footprint of AI computation, attempting to bridge the gap between hardware deployment and sustainable data center operations.
