Synapticure Launches Virtual Care Initiative for Ataxia Patients

For the thousands of Americans battling ataxia, finding specialized neurological care often requires years of searching for localized expertise. Synapticure is now attempting to bridge that gap by launching a national, virtual-first care program designed specifically to connect patients with movement disorder specialists regardless of their geographic location.

Synapticure Launches Virtual Care Initiative for Ataxia Patients

The new service offers patients access to virtual medical evaluations, genetic counseling, and longitudinal care plans managed by the company’s independent clinical team. Led by Dr. Elizabeth Ferluga, the program aims to function either as a primary neurological resource or as a collaborative partner for a patient's existing local care team. The model emphasizes a comprehensive approach, including coordination with physical and occupational therapists, behavioral health support for caregivers, and guidance on navigating clinical trial opportunities.

Biogen Inc. has partnered with the firm to support disease awareness, though the pharmaceutical company holds no role in the clinical operations or medical decision-making processes. This expansion marks a significant shift in Synapticure’s platform, which already serves individuals with neurodegenerative conditions such as ALS, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s. By integrating at-home genetic testing and virtual diagnostic coordination, the company seeks to remove the traditional barriers that leave many rare disease patients underserved by standard healthcare systems.
