The new lab enables the company to process its advanced diagnostic tests in-house, moving beyond its roots as a wellness-focused provider into a clinical platform. By utilizing next-generation sequencing, the platform identifies approximately 10,000 bacteria and fungi, alongside four common STIs. This approach aims to resolve recurring issues in women’s health, where conditions like bacterial vaginosis or estrogen-related changes are frequently misdiagnosed by traditional methods. Internal data suggests that nearly 68% of users arrive at the platform having received an incorrect diagnosis elsewhere.

Juno Bio Opens Dedicated Women’s Health Sequencing Lab in Oakland
Juno Bio has launched its first CLIA-certified sequencing laboratory in Oakland, California, specifically designed to address gaps in vaginal microbiome diagnostics. The facility opening coincides with a $3.8 million funding round supported by Ada Ventures, Artesian, Illumina Accelerator, and Entrepreneur First to scale the company’s clinical infrastructure.

Founder and CEO Hana Janebdar noted that the laboratory represents a shift toward establishing a formal measurement standard for vaginal health. With the test now available in 46 states, the company is integrating its data with telehealth services and pharmaceutical research partnerships. Medical advisors, including Johns Hopkins’ Dr. Anna Powell, emphasize that such precision diagnostics are essential for managing complex or treatment-resistant symptoms that conventional, pathogen-limited tests often overlook.
