The October 15 event marks a critical juncture for the organization, as it navigates a challenging political climate. With the Trump Administration proposing significant budget cuts to PEPFAR and federal research programs, the advocacy group is doubling down on its efforts to protect decades of progress in combating HIV, tuberculosis, and hepatitis C. Jason Kirk, the group's Chief Operating Officer, noted that the honorees embody the persistence needed to challenge systemic injustice during this period of funding instability.

Treatment Action Group Names 2026 Research in Action Honorees
Global health advocate Asia Russell and performer Morgan Bassichis are set to receive the 2026 Research in Action Awards this October. The ceremony, hosted by the Treatment Action Group at New York’s Angel Orensanz Center, celebrates figures who bridge the divide between scientific research, community activism, and artistic expression.

Asia Russell, Executive Director of Health GAP, earns recognition for her long-term focus on global healthcare equity. Joining her is Morgan Bassichis, whose performance work—including the show Can I Be Frank?—uses storytelling to dissect queer history and activist identity. Since its inception in 1997, the annual fundraiser has generated over $5.5 million, fueling policy analysis and educational initiatives aimed at ensuring equitable access to care. A third honoree and a featured artist for the event’s Limited Art Edition are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
