Nanjing Forum Launches Youth-Led Global Sustainability Initiative

More than 500 delegates from 57 nations converged at Nanjing University’s Enling Theater this week to launch the 2026 Dialogue with the Future. By leveraging Jiangsu Province’s network of 376 sister-city partnerships, the event aimed to replace traditional diplomatic rhetoric with concrete, youth-driven action on climate and equity.

Nanjing Forum Launches Youth-Led Global Sustainability Initiative

The summit’s centerpiece, the Sister-City Youth Initiative, marks a public commitment to tackling global divides through cross-border collaboration. Participants emphasized that the project functions as a practical framework for cooperation rather than a symbolic declaration, with organizers confirming plans for year-round virtual exchanges and incubation grants to sustain the momentum generated in Nanjing.

Four speakers provided distinct perspectives on the intersection of culture and sustainability. Hongshan Forest Zoo director Shen Zhijun detailed how urban wildlife management can foster community engagement, while architect Zhao Xiaoxin argued for the integration of traditional craft techniques into modern rural development. Malaysian lecturer Dr. Tan and Russian student Lisa highlighted the role of empathy in cross-cultural education and volunteerism, respectively. These exchanges underscored a shift toward grassroots innovation, positioning Nanjing as a hub for students and entrepreneurs eager to translate shared values into measurable impact across their respective home regions.
