The report, which surveyed participants across 44 countries, indicates that public appetite for AI-driven governance is outpacing bureaucratic implementation. Miguel Carrasco, a managing director at BCG, noted that the public will judge the success of these initiatives by tangible improvements in speed and accessibility. However, this support is not unconditional. Roughly two-thirds of respondents insist on maintaining human oversight, particularly for complex or consequential decisions.

Regional perspectives on AI adoption remain fragmented. The Middle East and Africa lead in comfort, with 78% of citizens supporting direct AI involvement in services. Conversely, European populations remain the most cautious, with over a third favoring human-led processes over autonomous systems. Despite the enthusiasm, concerns regarding job displacement and the accuracy of AI-generated decisions persist, cited by 32% and 30% of global respondents respectively.

Heidi Kim, a partner at BCG, emphasized that building public trust requires visible accountability mechanisms, such as independent audits and clear pathways for human intervention. The data suggests that the political risk of inertia now outweighs the risk of innovation; countries perceived as keeping pace with AI adoption report significantly higher public satisfaction than those lagging behind. As Dr. Lars Littig noted, the current window of public openness is a fleeting opportunity that requires governments to pair technical deployment with robust, transparent safeguards.
