Handoff Debuts H1 AI Model to Automate Construction Blueprint Takeoffs
Austin-based Handoff has launched H1, an AI system designed to automate the labor-intensive process of construction blueprint takeoffs. By interpreting technical drawings and generating accurate material quantities, the model aims to replace manual estimation methods that have long relied on traditional rulers and spreadsheets.

In testing against the Construction Blueprint Takeoff Benchmark, the H1 model achieved a score of 81.6% across 15 residential blueprint sets. This performance outperformed eight major AI competitors, which clustered around a 55% accuracy rate. According to Handoff CEO Dmitry Alexin, the system bridges the gap between general AI capabilities and the specific technical requirements of the built environment. The technology is currently available to API customers and Scale Plan subscribers, with the company aiming to shift the focus of contractors from administrative paperwork back to field construction work.
