Calgary students and volunteers unveil new playground in single-day build

Two hundred volunteers descended on the Foundations for the Future Charter Academy in Calgary this week to transform a schoolyard into a state-of-the-art playground. The project marks two decades of collaboration between Foresters Financial and the non-profit KABOOM!, turning student-drawn concepts into a reality for 420 local children.

The construction effort, which took place in a single day at 1140 Mayland Drive NE, integrated specific design requests submitted by students from the school’s Northeast Elementary Campus back in April. By involving children in the planning process, organizers aimed to ensure the space reflects the needs and imaginations of those who will use it daily.

This installation commemorates the 30th anniversary of KABOOM! and highlights a long-standing partnership with Foresters Financial. For the corporate participants, including Greatway Financial, the project serves as a practical extension of their community outreach goals. Erin Petley-Kerr, associate principal at the academy, noted that the facility is expected to strengthen student growth and bolster community ties in the Mayland Heights area, providing a secure environment for students to develop confidence and social connections.
