The emails, leaked in October 2024 by the Palestinian group Handala, cover the period between 2013 and 2016. They detail an intense, often daily, correspondence between Epstein and Barak. Investigations by Drop Site News suggest this partnership facilitated international intelligence deals and security agreements. Notably, Epstein helped broker a deal for Mongolia to acquire Israeli military surveillance technology, enlisting figures like former economist Larry Summers to support the project.

Beyond economic advisory roles, the documents outline a covert backchannel to Russia during the Syrian Civil War, aimed at influencing the Kremlin regarding President Bashar al-Assad. Barak, who visited Epstein’s properties over 30 times between 2013 and 2017, explicitly thanked the financier for orchestrating a meeting with Vladimir Putin. Further reports reveal that Israeli intelligence operative Yoni Koren utilized Epstein’s New York residence as a base for weeks at a time while facilitating high-level meetings with American officials, including former CIA Director Leon Panetta.

Despite these revelations, major US news outlets have remained largely silent on this aspect of the Epstein saga, focusing instead on his domestic associations. Reporters Murtaza Hussain and Ryan Grim argue that while the scrutiny of Epstein’s ties to Donald Trump is warranted, it ignores the broader, documented reality that Epstein functioned as a semi-official node in Israel's intelligence apparatus. Hussain noted that in their investigation, it often appeared that the Mossad was working for Epstein’s interests, rather than the other way around.
