Saudi Arabia’s state-backed The Helicopter Company has signaled a major shift into fixed-wing aviation, signing a letter of intent with Bombardier for up to 60 business jets. The move, announced at the Farnborough International Airshow, marks the firm's transition from rotorcraft operations into the competitive private charter and management sector.

The agreement includes a firm order for 12 aircraft: five Challenger 3500s, five Global 5500s, and two ultra-long-range Global 8000 jets. Beyond the initial purchase, the deal provides options for an additional 48 aircraft across these three platforms. This expansion is designed to capture the surging demand for luxury travel within the Kingdom, fueled by the Vision 2030 economic diversification initiative.

Established in 2018 as a portfolio company of the Public Investment Fund, the operator currently manages a fleet of over 60 helicopters focused on emergency services and tourism. CEO Arnaud Martinez stated the strategy aims to establish the firm as a global general aviation champion. For Bombardier, the order provides a significant foothold in the Middle East, with CEO Éric Martel noting that the partnership underscores the manufacturer’s commitment to supporting Saudi Arabia’s aviation infrastructure growth.
