Chubb Profit Dips as Property Insurance Market Softens
Global insurer Chubb saw its second-quarter net income slide to $2.85 billion from $2.97 billion a year earlier, a decline driven by persistent softening in property underwriting conditions. Despite the contraction in bottom-line profit, the company’s core operating income of $7.26 per share still outperformed analyst expectations of $6.78.
Chief Executive Evan Greenberg characterized the current market as overly soft in global property insurance, noting that these conditions are now bleeding into casualty lines. Financial lines also remain under pressure. Despite these headwinds, Greenberg maintained that the company’s broad diversification strategy has allowed the majority of its business units to continue growing.
