The White House and a bipartisan group of senators reached a consensus on an ethics provision within the Clarity Act, clearing a significant hurdle for the crypto legislation. Despite this progress, the bill faces a challenging path, requiring Democratic support to secure the 60 votes necessary for Senate passage after clearing the House.

Corporate performance provided a lift to the sector, led by Charles Schwab. The firm posted second-quarter adjusted earnings of $1.62 per share, surpassing Wall Street expectations of $1.56 and significantly outpacing the $1.14 reported during the same period last year. Revenue reached a record $7.1 billion, exceeding the $6.9 billion forecast by analysts. Elsewhere, Swiss firm Julius Baer reported record net profit for the first half of the year, driven by heightened client activity and growth in assets under management. In India, SBI Funds Management saw its shares climb during their market debut in Mumbai, marking the country's largest initial public offering of the year at $1 billion.
