The rise of sophisticated digital threats has forced a shift in how commercial insurers approach liability. Threat actors are increasingly leveraging generative tools to impersonate executives and manipulate employees, often bypassing traditional perimeter defenses by exploiting internal trust networks. BOXX Insurance Expands Cyber Policies to Cover Deepfake Fraud
With 86% of US cybersecurity leaders reporting AI-related incidents over the past year, Toronto-based BOXX Insurance is formally updating its Cyberboxx Business policies. The move introduces affirmative coverage for AI-driven social engineering and deepfake attacks, closing a critical ambiguity gap for small and medium-sized enterprises.

To address the increasing frequency of these incidents, the new endorsement is paired with a policy feature that reinstates the aggregate limit of liability after each loss. This ensures that businesses remain protected even if they face multiple AI-enabled claims throughout a single policy term. By explicitly defining AI and deepfake events within their coverage language, the Zurich Insurance Group subsidiary aims to provide clearer financial protection against the evolving tactics of cybercriminals.
