Elanco’s Credelio Quattro Outpaces Rivals in Tick-Kill Speed

Elanco Animal Health’s Credelio Quattro is hitting the market with a clinical advantage: new data published in Parasites & Vectors confirms the chewable tablet kills black-legged ticks faster than top competitors Simparica Trio and NexGard Plus, reaching significant efficacy within just eight hours of treatment.

Elanco’s Credelio Quattro Outpaces Rivals in Tick-Kill Speed

For veterinarians and pet owners, the window of time between a tick’s attachment and the potential transmission of pathogens—such as Lyme disease—is critical. While standard prevention typically relies on a 24-to-48-hour window, the study highlights that Credelio Quattro’s active ingredient, lotilaner, achieves significant reduction of Ixodes scapularis in one-third of that time. Unlike competing products that show a performance decline toward the end of the 28-day dosing cycle, Credelio Quattro maintains its eight-hour speed of kill throughout the entire month.

Dr. Casey Locklear, a parasiticides expert at Elanco, emphasized that this consistency is a primary factor for clinical decision-making. The rapid-kill profile extends to the lone star tick, a species increasingly recognized for its association with alpha-gal syndrome. A 2024 study corroborated these findings, noting that lotilaner sustains an initial 12-hour kill speed against lone star ticks, outperforming sarolaner and afoxolaner-based alternatives. With tick populations expanding into new geographic regions, researchers like Dr. Kathryn Reif of Auburn University warn that year-round vigilance remains essential for mitigating the health risks posed to both animals and their owners.
