Rick Wessel to Step Down as FirstCash CEO

After two decades at the helm of the pawn-shop and consumer-lending firm, Rick Wessel will transition to executive chairman on January 1. The move marks a significant leadership shuffle for the company, as the board prepares to hand the chief executive reins to a veteran of the 2016 Cash America merger.

Rick Wessel to Step Down as FirstCash CEO

T. Brent Stuart, who has functioned as president and chief operating officer for the past decade, will succeed Wessel as CEO. Stuart brings extensive institutional knowledge to the role, having led Cash America International prior to its 2016 consolidation with FirstCash. Upon his promotion, he will also secure a seat on the company's board of directors.

Wessel has guided the organization since 2006, overseeing its growth into a prominent player in the lending space. His shift to the executive chairman role ensures continuity during the transition period as Stuart assumes full operational control of the business.
