Yope Secures $12.3M to Scale Ad-Free Social Networking

While platforms like TikTok and Instagram prioritize global reach and algorithmic feeds, Yope is betting on the intimacy of private, small-scale circles. The London-based startup has secured $12.3 million in seed funding to expand its ad-free social network, which focuses on micro-communities rather than public content consumption.

Yope Secures $12.3M to Scale Ad-Free Social Networking

The company, led by CEO Bahram Ismailau, reached its current iteration after two pivots and two years of development. Its model centers on accounts that remain private by default, removing the pressure to act as an influencer. According to Ismailau, research involving 100,000 interviews revealed that nearly a third of young users were already creating secondary, candid "spam" accounts to bypass the performative nature of mainstream social media.

Yope currently reports 15 million registered users, with over 50% of that base engaging with the app at least five days a week. The platform utilizes AI not to generate content, but to facilitate real-world connections and develop upcoming features like integrated mini-games. The fresh capital, led by Northzone with participation from Inovo, Redseed, and Geek Ventures, brings the startup's total funding to $20 million. The team plans to use these resources to scale its 35-person workforce and establish a new office in the United States.
