Peoples Ltd. Reports 52% Profit Surge in Second Quarter

A 52.73% jump in net income highlights the latest financial report from Peoples Ltd., the holding company for PS Bank. The Wyalusing-based institution posted $3.41 million in second-quarter earnings, a sharp climb from the $2.23 million recorded during the same period last year, fueled by strategic debt management and steady loan growth.

Peoples Ltd. Reports 52% Profit Surge in Second Quarter

For the first six months of 2026, the company reported a consolidated net income of $6.56 million, or $3.61 per share. This performance marks a 52.51% increase over the $4.3 million, or $2.37 per share, achieved in the first half of 2025. Return on assets rose to 1.97% by June 30, up from 1.46% the prior year, while return on average equity climbed to 19.20%.

Asset and deposit growth remained consistent throughout the first half of the year. Total assets reached $675.78 million, a 5.28% increase since the end of 2025, while deposits grew to $587.99 million. Total loans also saw an uptick, reaching $441.33 million. Anthony J. Gabello, President and CEO, attributed these results to disciplined balance sheet management, including a planned gain of $358,000 from a subordinated debt redemption. Without this specific gain, year-to-date income growth would have settled at 44.21%.

Looking ahead, the bank expects current high returns on assets and equity to moderate as the year progresses. Gabello noted that the Scranton office, established in March 2025, continues to bolster performance, alongside a maturing indirect lending program. Despite the strong half-year results, the company maintains a cautious outlook, citing potential regulatory and economic variables as it continues to expand its footprint across Bradford, Sullivan, Wyoming, Lackawanna, and Susquehanna counties.
