BorgWarner will supply dual-clutch transmission systems to a major Chinese motorcycle manufacturer starting in the third quarter of 2027. The contract marks a shift for the Auburn Hills-based firm, moving it from a component supplier to a full systems provider for vehicles with engines exceeding 500 cc.

The program integrates dual clutches, hydraulic control modules, and specialized software to improve fuel economy and shifting performance. By adapting passenger car transmission expertise for two-wheeled and four-wheeled recreational vehicles, the company aims to capitalize on the industry’s transition away from traditional manual and continuously variable transmissions.

Henk Vanthournout, vice president of BorgWarner Inc., noted that the company intends to leverage its history of delivering nearly 10 million passenger car DCT units to support this push into the motorcycle sector. Beyond the domestic Chinese market, the partnership is designed to assist the customer in scaling production for future expansion into Europe and North America.
