Kalshi Challenges Netflix Over Documentary Trailer

Prediction market Kalshi has issued a cease-and-desist letter to Netflix, demanding the removal of a trailer for the documentary "Instadocs: The Prediction Games." The firm alleges the promotional footage is defamatory, claiming it falsely suggests users are currently trading on the platform within Nevada, where the company faces a legal ban.

The dispute centers on a clip featuring a Las Vegas party where attendees discuss betting on the platform. Kalshi argues that a specific $5,000 bet displayed on a phone screen dates back to May 2025, predating the state-imposed restrictions. According to the company, the trailer misleads viewers by implying this activity occurred on July 19, 2026, creating a false impression of current regulatory compliance.

Kalshi claims it previously reached an understanding with a Netflix staffer to exclude the disputed receipt from the final cut. Despite this, the company asserts that the footage remains prominent on the Netflix app. While Netflix acknowledges the screenshot originates from 2025, a spokesperson maintained that the documentary footage is authentic. The streamer clarified that the specific trades shown were documented during a July 2026 event, noting that any bets referenced are matters between the individual trader and the platform.
