Synopsys Unveils Autonomous AI Agents for Chip and System Design

At the 2026 DAC Chips to Systems Conference, Synopsys debuted a suite of autonomous, agentic workflows designed to overhaul engineering productivity. By integrating NVIDIA’s accelerated computing and Nemotron AI models, the company aims to shrink weeks of manual labor in chip verification and thermal analysis into mere hours of automated execution.

The new platform, anchored by Synopsys AgentEngineer technology, marks a shift from tool-assisted design to goal-driven orchestration. The system autonomously manages the full verification lifecycle, deconstructing complex specifications into actionable tasks. According to the company, this workflow delivers up to 50X faster time-to-validated RTL while simultaneously achieving a 20% improvement in coverage, addressing one of the most persistent bottlenecks in modern semiconductor development.

Beyond verification, Synopsys is applying this agentic approach to computer-aided engineering (CAE) and analog design. Engineers can now define performance goals in natural language, allowing autonomous agents to handle layout generation, SPICE simulation, and thermal management. This evolution is supported by an expanded portfolio of over 20 GPU-accelerated products, including PrimeSim SPICE, which now sees 18X faster simulation speeds compared to traditional CPU-based workflows. These capabilities, currently in customer evaluation, are scheduled for general availability in the second half of 2026.
