American Industrial Partners Merges Intelligrated and Trew into Automation Giant

Private equity firm American Industrial Partners has finalized its acquisition of Intelligrated from Honeywell Technologies. The move signals a strategic consolidation, as AIP plans to merge the 3,300-employee firm with its existing portfolio company, Trew, to create a singular, large-scale platform for material handling and warehouse automation solutions.

The combined entity, which also includes Transnorm, aims to capture market share by integrating robotics, sortation technologies, and aftermarket software services. While Transnorm will maintain its distinct operational identity, the broader platform will lean on the combined engineering expertise and customer bases of all three organizations to serve the e-commerce, retail, and parcel sectors. Alfred Rebello, appointed as CEO of the combined platform, noted that the integration focus remains on agility and delivering a unified value proposition to existing clients.

AIP is leveraging its ongoing partnership with Redwood Technology Ventures to guide this growth phase. The venture firm, comprised of original Intelligrated founders, provides sector-specific insight that AIP deems critical for scaling the new platform. Evercore served as the exclusive financial advisor for the transaction, with Ropes & Gray and Baker Botts providing legal and regulatory counsel, respectively. This acquisition adds to AIP’s $17.8 billion portfolio of industrial businesses, which currently generates approximately $32 billion in annual revenue.
