Meta Integrates AI Chatbot Into Threads Private Messages

Threads users can now engage directly with Meta AI within their private messages, marking a shift from public-only interactions. The rollout, beginning globally this Monday, allows individuals to share threads, images, and links with the assistant for deeper analysis or follow-up questions without leaving the application interface.

Meta Integrates AI Chatbot Into Threads Private Messages

This move aligns Threads with Meta's broader ecosystem, mirroring the AI integration already present on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. By centralizing these tools, the company aims to retain user attention and discourage reliance on external competitors such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Google Gemini. The integration functions as a gateway for real-time information and personalized recommendations.

While the direct messaging feature is becoming a standard offering, Meta continues to experiment with AI visibility in public feeds. Users dissatisfied with the assistant’s presence in their public interactions retain the ability to mute the @meta.ai account or flag specific replies as uninteresting. The company is currently evaluating user feedback from these test markets before determining the scope of further public-facing expansions.
