Troy Jackson Raises $2 Million in Bid to Unseat Susan Collins

Jackson secured the Democratic nomination after Graham Platner withdrew from the race amid rape allegations. Since then, his campaign has collected contributions from 58,000 donors, with nearly 30,000 of those being first-time contributors. Jackson described the outpouring as a vote of confidence in his movement, which focuses on policies such as Medicare for All, the abolition of ICE, and aggressive taxation of the ultra-wealthy.

The path to victory remains steep. Collins, chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, maintains a significant financial advantage bolstered by a network of billionaire donors and a super PAC, Pine Tree Results, which reportedly plans to spend $20 million on attack ads. Data from AdImpact indicates that Collins and her allies have already reserved $60 million in airtime, dwarfing the $24 million allocated by Democrats. Jackson estimates he will need to raise between $40 million and $50 million to remain viable against the incumbent. Despite the disparity, a recent University of New Hampshire poll shows Jackson narrowly leading at 49% to Collins' 46%, suggesting the race remains a toss-up.
